Who we are
Zaptitude (“Zaptitude,” “we,” “us”) is operated by Nine Acre Design Co.. This policy covers the Zaptitude student app at app.zaptitude.io, Zaptitude for Schools at schools.zaptitude.io, and our website at zaptitude.io. Questions go to nineacredesign@gmail.com.
Who Zaptitude is for
Zaptitude is built for high school students. You must be at least 13 to create an account. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have, we delete it. If you think a child under 13 has signed up, tell us at nineacredesign@gmail.com.
What we collect
When you sign in with Google, Google shares your name, email address, and profile picture with us. We never see your Google password, and we can't see your email, contacts, files, or anything else in your Google account.
What you tell us:
- Your answers during setup and in the career survey: what matters to you in work, which fields interest you, and how you feel about college or training after high school.
- Your school, if you choose to connect it, and your grade or birth year if you give them to us.
- Careers and paths you save, plans you build, and any notes or target dates you add to them.
- Anything you type into search, including descriptions of the kind of life or work you want.
What we notice while you use Zaptitude:
- Which careers and pages you look at, what you tap, and how long you spend on them.
- Basic technical details such as your browser, device type, and approximate location based on your IP address.
How we use it
- To run Zaptitude: keep you signed in, save your progress, and show you what you saved.
- To make it more useful for you: match careers to your interests and answers.
- To write comparisons and search results with AI (more on that below).
- To improve Zaptitude: learning which features help and which confuse people.
- To show your school group totals, only if you joined with your school's code and sharing is on.
- To keep Zaptitude secure and to meet our legal obligations.
We don't use your information for advertising, and we don't build profiles of you for anyone else.
How we use AI
Some features, like career comparisons and searching by the kind of life you want, are written by an AI model made by Anthropic. When you use them, we send Anthropic the text you typed and the career information being compared. We don't send your name or email. Anthropic doesn't use this information to train its models.
AI can get things wrong. Treat what it writes as a starting point to talk through with someone you trust, not as advice.
Sharing with your school
Picking your school in your profile helps us show you prices and programs near you. On its own, it doesn't share anything with your school.
If your school uses Zaptitude for Schools, it can give you a code (like LINC-7Q4K). Joining with that code is optional. If you join, the people at your school or district who use Zaptitude for Schools see totals for groups of students, like “23 students looked at nursing.”
What counts toward those totals:your grade, the careers and fields you look at, save or follow, the paths you build (the career, and how the path starts — like college, an apprenticeship or straight to work), careers you mark “Not for me,” whether you finished the career survey, your answers to the short “how sure do you feel” check-in (only ever as an average for a group), and which weeks you used Zaptitude. Only what you do after you join counts.
What your school never sees: your name, email or photo; your survey answers; your budget, money numbers or the schools you pick on a path; or any list, timeline or record about you alone.
Small groups stay hidden.Numbers about what students do are shown only when they cover at least 5 students; anything smaller shows as “fewer than 5.” Your school can see exactly how many students joined and how many turned sharing off.
In materials for local businesses.Your school may also use these group totals in materials it shares with local businesses — for example, when it asks them to support scholarships. Those materials only ever show groups of at least 10 students (smaller groups show as “fewer than 10”), never per grade, and never anything about you alone.
Your own words, only if you choose. You can write a short reflection in your profile and choose to share it with your school. If you do, your school may quote it in those materials. You pick how it's signed: your first name and grade (like “Maya, a junior”), just your grade, or “a student.” It's used only after your school approves it, and if you're under 18, only after a parent or guardian signs your school's permission form. You can stop sharing it anytime: it comes out of your school's pages and any new materials right away. Copies someone already downloaded or printed can't be taken back.
You're in control. You can turn sharing off anytime in your profile. Your school's totals then stop including you, including what you did before. If you turn it back on, counting starts again from that moment. Changing your school in your profile also stops sharing. If your school stops using Zaptitude for Schools, sharing stops for everyone automatically and we'll let you know in your profile.
When a school uses Zaptitude, the school stays in control of student information that comes through it. We act for the school as a “school official” under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), use that information only to provide Zaptitude to the school, and don't share it with anyone the school hasn't authorized. Parents who want to review or correct school records can contact the school or us.
Information from Google
We use your Google account only to sign you in and to show your name and picture in Zaptitude. Zaptitude's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including its Limited Use requirements.
How long we keep it, and deleting it
We keep your information while your account is open. You can ask us to see, correct, download, or delete your information at any time by emailing nineacredesign@gmail.com from the address you sign in with. When we delete an account, we remove its personal information within 30 days, except anything we're legally required to keep.
If you're a parent or guardian of a student under 18, you can make these requests for your child. If the information came through a school, we may check with the school first.
Keeping it safe
Your information is encrypted when it travels between you and us, and access inside Zaptitude is limited so that students see only their own information and schools see only their own students. No system is perfectly secure; if a breach ever affects your information, we'll tell you and your school as the law requires.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we use information we already have, we'll tell you in Zaptitude before it takes effect.
